The 10 Rules of WoW Forever Gold
World of Warcraft: Forever isn't Classic with a new coat of paint. Its economy works differently, and a lot of old gold advice will cost you money. These ten rules are the whole strategy on one page.
Gold is scarce, so sell to people in a hurry
Forever has no WoW Token, and being fully mounted at level 60 costs about 1,300 gold. Everyone is saving. The players who pay best are the ones racing ahead: leveling professions, gearing for raids, buying bags.
Sell leveling materials the day you farm them
In launch week, mid-level materials dropped 50–65% as the crowd caught up. Mageweave Cloth fell 64% and Mithril Bars 59%. A leveling material is worth most while few players are at that level, so don't hoard it.
Stockpile only for a date
The only stockpile worth holding is one for a known spike in demand. The next one is December 9, when Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair all open at once.
Sell the inputs, not the gear
Most of Forever's hundreds of new crafted items bind on pickup, so crafters make gear for themselves. What they buy are the inputs: scarce materials like Frilled Lichen and Pyrite, and the dyes, acid and bars made from them.
Respect the Black Market ceilings
A goblin vendor in Powderfuse Port sells Black Lotus and Arcane Crystal for 50 gold each. Nobody pays more than that on the auction house, so don't build a farm around items with a price cap.
Your ruleset is your market
Forever has one auction house per ruleset, per faction, per region. In launch-week scans, RP prices ran about 1.6 times Normal and RP-PvP about 1.9 times. Gold can't move between rulesets.
Never post tiny stacks
At launch, every auction listing cost at least 1 silver in deposit, which you lose if it doesn't sell. Ten listings of single Copper Ore can cost more than the ore is worth. Post the stack sizes buyers actually want.
Learn your real auction cut
Blizzard hasn't published Forever's auction house fees, and the numbers floating around come from older versions of WoW. Your first sale mail shows exactly what was taken. Use that number in every price you set.
Buy speed, not vanity
Riding first, always. Then whatever makes you faster at earning. Pets, tabards and titles can wait until you have Journeyman Riding.
Track ten prices, and never buy gold
Write down the price of ten items you care about every day. After a week, you'll know your market better than almost anyone. And never buy gold: it gets accounts banned, and it's often stolen from hacked accounts.
